This week from Emily, another mesmerising thunderbolt.
1607
Within that little Hive
such Hints of Honey lay
As made Reality a Dream
and Dreams, Reality –
I don’t want to add too much with interpretations, and certainly not take away. A hive, a hint, honey, reality and dreams are of course opaque and could pertain to lots of things. All through Emily’s work there is a use of capitals, thought by scholars to be deliberate, to a purpose not given by Emily. My view of it is that what she had in mind in each poem was the exemplar of a concept, polished as bright as she could.
